She thinks of her Persona, Medea as her only friend, even though her Persona nearly killed her by strangling her. She is loyal to Takaya and Jin and always follows them to do illegal activities, even during their assassinations, although she doesn't really consider them close friends and only tags along with them because she has nowhere else to belong and they are Artificial Persona Users like her. Without a strong reason to live, Chidori is similar to the protagonist in that they are very indifferent to death Chidori feels all death means is just "not waking up anymore". While it shares many similarities both visually and mechanically, Vacation Simulator changes things up by giving players the opportunity to take virtual “vacations” to one of three common vacation environments: the beach, the forest, and a snowy mountainside ski resort.īut Vacation Simulator isn’t designed to make you feel like you’re actually on vacation. Vacation Simulator is a pseudo-sequel to Job Simulator, taking place in the same humanless world as that title. While you don’t have to play the first Moss game to get an appreciation for Quill and the beautiful, detailed world around her, there’s no reason you shouldn’t pick up both games if you really love Book II. It’s as fun to play as it is to watch and the content is wonderfully family-friendly. Like any good platformer, Moss: Book II doesn’t just feature running and jumping and intermixes plenty of puzzles and combat - as well as boss battles - to keep things fresh.Ī platformer in VR might not make much sense on the surface but, once you head into the world and realize you’re a physical spirit that assists Quill on her quest (all while directly controlling Quill and her actions, too), you’ll quickly realize how important that interaction is between you and the heroin of the story. Moss: Book II begins quite literally right where the original ended - immediately after vanquishing the giant snake boss in the first game - and includes improved combat mechanics, better controls, and even more time with the ever-lovable Quill, a plucky little mouse with a sword.īook II adds several new weapons and gameplay mechanics that let players hone their own combat style, although plenty of puzzles are tailor-made for specific actions or weapons in order to solve them. ![]() ![]() The scenes that revolve around Jake and his wife Christina ( Maggie Grace) are similarly rote, but intense. The scene in general may be hackneyed-who really needs to see another angry man face an uncaring world ruled by ass-covering company men-but it does have a kernel of raw emotion thanks to Schwarzenegger. That's not always a bad thing. Schwarzenegger carries many of his scenes, like the one where Roman, facing a panel of unfeeling bureaucrats, demands that somebody apologize for the death of his family. Still, this movie does not make narrative sense beyond a point since it's essentially a series of scenes that show how consumed by grief these two characters are. Yes, "Aftermath" is inevitably about revenge, but it's also about the emotional stakes that lead characters to want to avenge their loved ones. We spend much of "Aftermath" waiting for these two characters to catch up with each other, which should give you an indication of the emotional pressure that builds throughout this film. He doesn't sleep well, is obsessed with the news, and is hounded by the press. He tries to show love to his wife and son, but that proves futile. He doesn't know Jake, but he's shown to suffer just as much as him. Roman has emotionally checked out, and that gives Schwarzenegger a lot of room to be moody and exhausted, his two main emotional registers during recent performances. He stays in his house, sees nobody, visits his family's grave, and generally stares off into the mid-distance. Schwarzenegger plays Roman, a man who works with his hands, but is woefully unable to do anything after a plane crash-perpetuated by a combination of equipment failure and negligence by well-meaning family man Jake (McNairy)-kills his wife, his daughter, and his daughter's unborn child. The film's short-comings are especially upsetting since Schwarzenegger is actually rather good in the film, and proves once again that, despite a severely limited range, he knows how to brood. But more often than not, it feels lifeless and angsty, mostly because it never has anything substantial to say about the grieving process beyond immersing viewers in trite representations of post-traumatic stress. "Aftermath" should be refreshing for its atypically slow build-up to these two characters' climactic meeting. We spend much of the film waiting for something to happen after two strangers-a construction foreman (Schwarzenegger) and an air traffic controller ( Scoot McNairy)-have their lives implicitly bound together by the collision of two commercial airliners. Unfortunately, the film's commendably atypical focus on characters, mood, and psychological realism does not make Schwarzenegger's latest necessarily good. " Aftermath," a new revenge drama starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is considerably more contemplative and downbeat than the Austrian leading man's fans might expect. ![]() ![]() ![]() After nearly two decades and countless substantial contributions to Santa Monica Studio’s rich legacy, Yumi has the unquestioned respect and trust of her peers. Her project management prowess and meticulous oversight of 2018’s God of War helped the title fully realize its groundbreaking potential. Taking over as studio head is Yumi Yang, a 19-year PlayStation veteran with an extensive background in product development and heavy involvement across many of Santa Monica Studio’s biggest games. All of PlayStation is better for and grateful of her many years of exemplary service and bold creative vision. In her role as VP of Product Development, Shannon helped smaller independent teams incubate within the studio, leading to groundbreaking works like Journey and The Unfinished Swan. Under her leadership, the studio she helped found over twenty years ago masterfully reinvented itself and its greatest franchise with 2018’s Game of the Year, God of War. We extend our warmest congratulations to Shannon Studstill on her new role. God of War 2 will likely be released for PS5.Sony issued a statement about Studstill’s departure and Yang’s new position: Perhaps one of these new IPs will eventually beat Santa Monica Studio at their own game, but that remains to be seen. Both Google and Microsoft have a blind spot when it comes to first-party action-adventure games like God of War, but these new hires should hopefully change that. However, these moves indicate we're likely to see new, innovative riffs on the God of War model from Stadia and Xbox in the years to come. Still, with Barlog and much of the original team still there, God of War 2 will likely turn out well. While God of War likely didn't suffer a massive change in direction because Barlog is still attached and has a pretty clear idea of what he wants to do, the departure of several key members at Sony Santa Monica will have a trickle-down effect. He thinks that " everyone will love it." The only game that we know inXile Entertainment is working on right now is Wasteland 3, which comes out on May 19, but Rymer's tweets confirm that the studio already has another game in the works.Ĭonsidering it has the input of a former God of War combat designer, could it possibly be a departure from the top-down RPGs we've come to expect from the studio? Microsoft has also been poaching Sony Santa Monica talent for The Initiative, one of its brand new studios, so the God of War team has lost some good talent since the title's release in 2018. ![]() Meanwhile, Rymer confirmed he has taken on the role of Lead Combat Designer at inXile Entertainment and is working on an unannounced game. Raymond also teases that Studstill's next game will be a "new IP." Following the acquisition of Typhoon Studios in January, this move and studio opening shows that Google still has faith in Stadia's long-term prospects, despite the concerns of many developers. Studstill is poised to lead a new branch of Stadia Games and Entertainment in Playa Vista, California. Santa Monica Studio Head and Executive Producer Shannon Studstill has left for a role at Stadia, while God of War's Senior Combat Designer Dean Rymer revealed he is working on an unannounced game at Microsoft subsidiary inXile Entertainment. Both Google and Microsoft have a blind spot when it comes to first-party action-adventure games like God of War, but these new hires seem intended to change that. God of War 2has all but been confirmed by Sony Santa Monica, but one has to wonder how the project will turn out now that top talent has left the lauded developer this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() Preface Provides Broad, Single-Source Coverage in the Entertainment Field Contemporary Theatre, Film and Television (CTFT) is a biographical reference series designed to provide students, educators, researchers, librarians, and general readers with information on a wide range of entertainment figures. 349 (Including references to Who’s Who in the Theatre and Who Was Who in the Theatre) Printed in the United States of America 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 13 12 11 10 09 ISSN: 0749-064X This title is also available as an e-book.
